If your child has been diagnosed with dyslexia or another specific learning difficulty, or they are struggling with reading, writing or spelling and you want to address these concerns before considering a diagnostic assessment, Dyslexia Sense offers one-to-one, tailored support to ensure your child can make accelerated progress in literacy.
Lessons are multi-sensory, engaging and fun using a wide variety of teaching methods and resources to suit your child’s way of learning. They follow a structured, cumulative approach to avoid gaps in a learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding and to ensure what has previously been taught is built on in a logical order. There are also plenty of opportunities for overlearning to develop automaticity and improve recall.
Areas of identified difficulties that can be covered in lessons include:
-
Speech and Language – word finding, receptive and expressive vocabulary, word building, grammar and pragmatics
-
Phonological awareness
-
Reading skills – phonics, word recognition, decoding, comprehension
-
Spelling – regular spelling patterns, high frequency words or tricky words
-
Writing – structure, punctuation and grammar
-
Sequencing
-
Memory
-
Handwriting
-
Study Skills (KS3 upwards)

To get started, an initial informal assessment is carried out to identify the learner’s specific areas of need so that a specialist teaching programme can be developed to support the individual in the best way possible.
It takes about an hour and consists of some sound-based work, spelling and reading activities. A summary report is provided which includes suggested targets for the individual.
Lessons are available in the Dyslexia Sense pod or, with school approval, at your child’s school (provided the school is local to Wilmslow). Please note, these lessons are in high demand, and after-school slots are limited - there may be a waiting list.
